Indigenous Plants and Native Uses in the Northeast Look at the plants growing around you: Along the open sunny clearing there are signs of European introduced plants also known as 'garden escapees' like periwinkle which has pretty little blue flowers most of the summer. There is a historic stone foundation just at the top of the hill that explains the nearby escapees. If you are lucky, you will see Indian pipe (Monotropa unifolora) growing inside the foundation close to the ground. Like many mushrooms, the life-cycle of this plant is very fast, but it is usually found in this moist, recently disturbed soil. | ||
