 Indigenous Plants and Native Uses in the Northeast Look at the plants growing around you: Among the huge boulders or glacial erratics (which were occasionally used as natural grinding mortars by Native Americans) and standing water of the swamp here, look for the broad (and pungent) leaves of the Skunk Cabbage (Symplocarpusfae foetidus). Don't be surprised to see the leaves poking through the early spring snow!  | ||
