Indigenous Plants and Native Uses in the Northeast

Look at the plants growing around you:


This is a shady open area next to the parking lot at Schoolhouse Brook park in Mansfield, CT. Even before you step out of the parking lot on the Roadrunner trail, you can see sugar maple (Acer saccharum) trees and black oak (Quercus species) trees. From summer to well into fall, growing in the cool shady edges of the clearing are bracken ferns (Polypodium vulgare).

Note: the Parks & Recreation Dept. insists that no plants are disturbed at the Park.
