Indigenous Plants and Native Uses in the Northeast Look at the plants growing around you: This is a open field surrounded by a stone wall and woods beyond. Orchard trees are still present here. In the field look for yarrow(Achillea millefolium) and daisy fleabane (Erigeron annuus) flowers from mid to late summer. On the far side of the field is a small colony of dogbane (Apocynum cannabinum) which flowers in mid summer, has slender pods in fall and is best harvested after the first frost when inner fibers peal away easily. An occasional Milkweed (Asclepias Syriaca) plant (related to dogbane) grows in the field. | ||
