Indigenous Plants and Native Uses in the Northeast Look at the plants growing around you: The Nipmuck Trail gets very narrow and rocky here along the rugged slope of the Schoolhouse Brook valley. Look for sweet white violets (Viola blanda) growing amongst the rock-outcrops where only tufts of grass and small plants can get a foot-hold. At the junction of the Nipmuck Trail with Pine Ridge Trail, you'll see the stone remains of an old historic mill that took it's power from the water of Schoolhouse Brook cascading down a natural rock-outcrop. More yellow birch (Betula species) trees grow in the moist rocky soil. | ||
